The Outpost Motel Pet Policy Update
After studying the impact of pets on the property, we have come to the difficult decision to move to a pet free policy. We understand that there are those of you who always travel with your pets and were able to make The Outpost your North Shore home away from home. We still want you to enjoy the North Shore and all it has to offer. There are pet friendly lodging options in the area. For those of you who travel both with your pet and pet free—please know that we would love to have you back as our guest.
Please note the following changes/dates:
- As always, there are no pets permitted in the Loft.
- As of September 2017, we have moved to a pet free policy in the rooms with kitchens. These include the Two Bedroom/Two Bathroom Suite, and our One Bedroom Suites.
- Pets will be allowed (with the $10.00/night/pet fee as in the past) in the Standard Queen, Two Queen, and Two Single bedrooms through the end of December 2017.
- Beginning January 1, 2018, we will offer only pet free lodging.
We understand that there are reservations with pets set in the future. If you have already made reservations to visit in 2018 which include a dog or reservations for a kitchen unit (made prior to September 2017) for the months of October, November, or December 2017, those reservations WILL be honored as long as the pet was declared when you reserved the room. If you have any questions regarding a future reservation, please contact us by phone so we can confirm.
We know that this change will impact some, and for that, we are sorry—and hope you understand that this was not a decision we came to lightly. There were many factors considered, including the growing number of pet owners who did not pick up after their pets (not only unsightly, but a health risk as well), the number of pets left unattended in the rooms, damages that have been done to the property, the potential for unintended problems with other guests who are wary of dogs and/or bothered by barking, and odors (wet dogs smell like, well, wet dogs) that can be difficult to mitigate.
Quite honestly, the main factor in our decision was the amount of additional time cleaning rooms which housed pets takes versus the number of hours between “check out” and “check in” time. Although a dog may be extremely well behaved, (and the owners VERY responsible) the simple fact is pet hair/dander is a part of the collateral damage to a room where a pet has stayed. Because pet free/allergen free accommodations are often requested, and because even if not specifically requested, it is an expectation of all guests that their room be clean and free of pet hair/odor, we had to weigh the expense of additional staff and customer satisfaction against the decision to become pet free. We certainly hope you appreciate how difficult this decision was for us. We have met some wonderful four legged guests at The Outpost. We are saddened by this, but know that it is the right decision. Thank you for your understanding.
